You’ve picked out a tattoo design and are looking forward to it. The only problem is that you have no idea what to expect and you’re worried about the pain. That’s common in these cases, and nobody really can tell you what you’ll feel when your tattoo is being applied. It just depends on the person. One thing though that can help you is knowing what spots are the most painful and which ones are not.

Most Painful Spots:
Eyeball tattoo
While it may sound odd, many people do get permanent tattoo work on their disfiguring blind eye. This is done because they want it to look normal. With all the nerves in the eye, this can be very dangerous and put you in excruciating pain. Most of the time though it’s done with anesthesia that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t hurt.
Top of foot or ankle tattoo
Painful due to the lack of fat. Nevertheless, this is a trendy spot, especially for females. They know that during the summer it will continuously be visible whether they are barefoot or wearing sandals.

Mons pubis
Shouldn’t even have to mention this one but I will anyway. The mons pubis is the fatty tissue over the area where the pubic bones meet. There are a lot of nerves down there that give you them pleasurable sensations. Messing around there is just something I wouldn’t recommend. If you love pain though, knock yourself out.
Behind the ear
There is no fat here and is just skin and bone. That combined with there being a few nerves makes this a top 5 painful spot. It can be beautiful though so choose at your own risk.
Chest (Above rib cage)
It works like this. If you have some layers of fat here than you will only be in a little pain. If you have no padding than you will want someone to shoot you, it’s that bad. This is by far the worst spot to go if you are a skinny guy or gal.
Least Painful Spots:
Arm
This is usually the most common spot for a man to get a tattoo. The muscles in the arms typically prevent this from even hurting at all. Well other than a little sting.
Calves
This spot has the right combination of muscle and fat that should make your tattoo experience rather painless. A man though here probably will have to shave his legs to make sure the tattoo is visible.
Back
The skin on your back tends to be thicker so if you’re going for a big tattoo than this is the ideal spot.
Buttocks
As long as you aren’t precisely strictly flat here than you will be fine. The buttocks usually get a lot of friction in the day to day activities, so it’s traditionally used to being touched and shouldn’t be too sensitive.

Shoulder Blade
Another common place like the arm that people like to use. Seeing as your shoulder blade will tend to have some muscle and some layer of fat it should make it rather painless.
Quick Tip:
Never take aspirin before going to get a tattoo. It’s possible that it will make you bleed more and that will add to the anxiety you probably are already feeling.
