San Judas Tadeo Tattoo – History and Gallery with Ideas

The San Judas Tadeo tattoo is an iconic symbol in many cultures.  The Hispanic community is one of the most significant cultures that use the icon. Judas Thaddaeus (or San Judas Tadeo in Spanish) is also known as Jude the Apostle. Known as the patron saint of lost causes, Judas Tadeo is considered a direct intercessor (a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer) of Jesus Christ.

A lot of people turn to him when they are in trouble, as he is the Saint that is officially associated with difficult circumstances. Mexico City has many thousands of street shrines to San Judas Tadeo, and even more, people have tattoos of him to keep their troubles away. It is undoubtedly not a tattoo you would want to cover up.

San Judas Tadeo Tattoo

It is clear to see why so many people have tattoos of this famous person on their skin. It is not just for the pure beauty of the style of tattoo; they have a lot of meaning behind them, too. If you ever see someone who has a San Judas Tadeo tattoo, you are likely to find a very sentimental story behind it.

Whether it is a story of losing someone close to them or losing their way at some other juncture, this tattoo is a symbol of change. As Saint Jude was one of the original twelve apostles to Jesus, having him inked on your body is said to help anyone under any circumstances.

There are some disagreements about whether or not Judas Thaddaeus was a direct sibling to Jesus. Some people also believe that he wasn’t the writer of the Book of Jude, but again, there is no common belief about these two. What there is, however, is a common knowledge that the Saint will help anyone through only troubled times and at any cost.

While there is little knowledge about his early life, most people do agree that he was born in the same area of Israel and at around the same time. That area is in northern Israel, called Galilee. Some people say that he was not the brother of Jesus, but his cousin. Of course, San Judas Tadeo is not to be confused with the other famous Judas, Judas Iscariot, who is the person who betrayed Jesus.

Why Is San Judas Tadeo So Popular?

Well, because of the confusion that the name Judas caused, not many people prayed to San Judas Tadeo. Therefore, many people believe that he was always waiting to hear prayers to him, asking for help. And when those prayers came, he would help them as quickly as possible.

Also, the name of Patron Saint came from him being in a hopeless situation of his own most of the time. There was a lot of hostility towards the Christian faith, with a lot of rumors spread about it. Judas supported the people to whom the hatred was aimed, and helped them to keep faith in God.

As we have already said, most of the people with this tattoo will have a deep and meaningful story behind it. Whether that is because the person themselves are in a bad situation, or they know someone else who is. In the Hispanic community, this tattoo has gained popularity as a prison tattoo. However, as the trend spreads, so do the reasons for having San Judas Tadeo inked on them.

Conclusion

Whether you are in a position that makes you feel hopeless, or you know someone who is, this may well be an excellent tattoo for you to consider. While you will see it spread across the backs and chests of some people, you will also find that you do not have to have a tattoo quite that big. Even a small image of the Saint will help you in times of need, no matter where it is on your body.
